"Edifices of Hong Kong’s Economy" - a Talk by Mr. Thomas Kwok

With its rail-hotel-mall complex and being home to many internationally renowned financial institutions, the International Finance Centre (ifc) has become the business destination to Hong Kong.  The construction of the International Commerce Centre (icc) continues this skyward momentum of the city’s economic prowess and vitality.   

Mr. Thomas P. K. Kwok, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, leading developer in both projects, will come to campus to deliver a talk on the ifc and icc projects, from their conception, design, construction, management to business model.  The talk is co-presented by the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Business and Economics, and the Faculty of Engineering.  Details of the talk are as follows: 

Date:               10 May, 2007 (Thursday)

Time:             5:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Venue:    P3, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building, HKU, Pokfulam 

Admission is free and all are welcome.

International Finance Centre (ifc) 

·        One ifc was opened in 1999, with 38 storeys and 4 trading floors at 210 m

·        Two ifc, designed by Cesar Pelli, was completed in 2003, with 88 storeys and 22 trading floors

·        At 415 m, Two ifc is the tallest building in Hong Kong and seventh in the world

·        Houses Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Warburg Pincus, Nomura Group, UBS AG, Ernst & Young, Financial Times, BNP Paribas, Lehman Brothers, etc.

 International Commerce Centre (icc) 

·        118-story, 484 m tall and located in West Kowloon

·        Hong Kong’s tallest building, world’s fourth, when completed in 2010
