Cloud-Centric Assured Information Sharing

Speaker bios: Dr. Bhavani Thuraisingham joined The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in October 2004 as a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Cyber Security Research Center in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science She is an elected Fellow of three professional organizations: the IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) and the BCS (British Computer Society) for her work in data security. She received the IEEE Computer Society’s prestigious 1997 Technical Achievement Award for “outstanding and innovative contributions to secure data management.” She was quoted by Silicon India Magazine as one of the top seven technology innovators of South Asian Origin in the USA in 2002.

Dr. Latifur R. Khan is currently a Professor of Computer Science and Director of Data Mining at the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). He joined UTD in September 2000 after he received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California (USC), USA. His research contributions have been in multimedia data management and mining, geospatial data management, ontology alignment with semantic web, cloud data mining and data analytics for security applications. His research has been supported by grants from NASA, AFOSR, NSF, NGA, IARPA, Nokia, Raytheon and Tektronix among others. He has published over 160 papers in data mining and data management in premier conferences including ICDM, ECML/PKDD, PAKDD, AAAI, IJCAI, IEEE Cloud, ACM Multimedia, ISI and journals including IEEE TKDE, TDSC, TSMC, ACM TMIS, VLDB, Journal of Web Semantics, Bio Informatics, and KAIS. He has given multiple keynote presentations at conferences including at the 2010 IEEE International Conference on Sensor Networks, Ubiquitous, and Trustworthy Computing. He is a coauthor of two books; Design and Implementation of Data Mining Tools and Data Mining Tools for Malware Detection. Together with his students his team has developed a number of tools in data mining applications in social networks, security and cloud computing and has two patents pending. Dr. Khan has served as a PC member of several conferences inclduding KDD, ICDM, SDM, and PAKDD and was the program chair of ISI in 2009. He is currently serving on the editorial boards of a number of journals including IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (TKDE). Dr. Khan is a senior member of both ACM and IEEE.

Abstract: In this speech we describe the design and implementation of cloud-based assured information sharing systems. In particular, we will describe our current implementation of a centralized cloud-based assured information sharing system and the design of a decentralized hybrid cloud-based assured information sharing system of the future. Our goal is for coalition organizations to share information stored in multiple clouds and enforce appropriate policies.
