Executive Education and International Co-operation
Globalization has affected not only business activities but also business studies. With the increasing integration of the world economy, executives must more frequently operate across international boundaries. They are more interested than ever before in learning about best international practices. Many executives prefer to have these learning opportunities brought to their doorstep.
The school offers both general and specialized executive training programmes with local and international partners to meet the needs of today's business executive. The Frontiers in Management and World Class Management Programmes offer Hong Kong executives just that. Organized through The Poon Kam Kai Institute of Management, these programmes bring distinguished faculty from all over the globe to Hong Kong where, along with guest speakers drawn from the local business and academic community, they are able to engage directly with local executives.
The Poon Kam Kai Institute of Management was founded through a generous donation presented to the university's School of Business by Mr. Dickson Poon. The institute's mission is to bring businesses and government agencies in the Asia Pacific region cutting-edge management knowledge from major centres of learning around the world. Faculty at the school provide dedicated support to the institute's consulting, education, and training programmes. The institute's work also benefits from the research findings and case materials developed by teachers at the school.
Through lectures, class discussions, and group study sessions, programme participants acquire a theoretical and practical framework upon which to build their careers in Asia by studying basic principles of effective management in an Asian Pacific context. Short-term, intensive programmes are designed to create a challenging and interactive learning experience. Our use of senior business practitioners as adjunct faculty and guest speakers is integral to our programme. Business leaders like Dr. Victor Fung, chairman, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and chairman, Prudential Asia; and Vincent Lo, chairman, Business and Professionals Federation, and chairman, Shui On, have provided insight and inspiration for our students.
An important part of The Poon Kam Kai Institute of Management's work is the delivery of business-driven management-development solutions tailor-made to its clients. The institute also offers a range of in-company development programmes, short courses, and executive development workshops to help middle- to senior-management professionals upgrade and broaden their management knowledge through case-based, action-oriented learning.
